What is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics is an applied science concerned with understanding human interaction with other elements of a system. Ergonomists design and arrange the workplace with knowledge of data, principles, and theory in order to optimize well-being and work performance. Consideration of capabilities and limitations of the individual are taken to find the ideal fit for the workstation.
Technology is rapidly changing and the demand for ergonomics is increasing. Think about if your wrists and arms hurt from typing by the end of the day or if your neck and eyes have fatigue from looking at the monitor. Whether at home or in an office, the desk, chair, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and lighting must all be assessed and adjusted to the user. For repetitive tasks like typing and writing, proper posture is essential in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Most workplace discomfort is preventable through a thorough understanding of ergonomics and adjustments. Bloom aims to bring that knowledge to you in order to facilitate your efficiency and safety in your work.
MEET THE FOUNDER

Audrey Mitchell, the founder of Bloom, graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Shortly thereafter, she pursued a degree in Occupational Therapy. Her interest in ergonomics was sparked after an enlightening fieldwork internship working with patients who had various workers’ compensation injuries. Audrey learned the basics of ergonomics and how easily these injuries could have been prevented with simple changes in individuals’ workspaces.
Now a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/L), Postural Alignment Specialist (PAS), and Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEAS), Audrey has a passion to continue spreading her knowledge to help all workers maximize productivity in a way that facilitates their health and wellness. She is available to speak on wellness panels as a keynote speaker.
